Manufacture Your Career Events – Spring 2024

SVAM recently hosted two Manufacture Your Career panel discussions. The first was at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on April 2nd, and the second was at Southwest Virginia Community College on April 16th. The purpose of this program is to encourage students to pursue careers in manufacturing by changing perceptions and educating them about available opportunities. For each event, panelists spoke to students and faculty about their companies, the benefits of working in manufacturing, and available job opportunities. They answered questions about pay and benefits, why so many have stayed in manufacturing for so long, working environments, how Southwest Virginia manufacturing impacts the globe, and much more.

For the UVA-Wise event, those panelists were Shawn Singleton from Samuel Pressure Vessel Group, Zachary Lawless from PBE Group, and Samantha Dowell from Tate, Inc.

Brandon McCracken from Lawrence Brothers, Inc. and Glen Booher from Samuel Pressure Vessel Group were the panelists for the SVCC event.

After the panel discussion, many students took advantage of the opportunity to network with the panelists. Thank you to Tonya Nations with UVA-Wise and Angela Miller with SVCC for hosting us for these events and our panelists for helping SVAM accomplish its goals.
