Since 1965, VFP Industries, headquartered in Roanoke, has worked alongside our customers to develop customized solutions for protecting critical components. VFP’s modern factory in Duffield, VA handles all shelter construction, assembly and system integration. Concrete shelters are assembled from individual panels made in our casting area. Metal shelter assembly utilizes panels fabricated in our on-site metal fabrication shop. From assembly, shelters are integrated with customer-specified features and equipment including power distribution, HVAC equipment, communications hardware, and support systems.

VFP, Inc. of Duffield, VA, is the recipient of this year’s Excellence in Safety Award, a reflection of the company’s unwavering commitment to creating a workplace where safety is more than a program—it’s a core value. Amid remarkable growth—an 80% increase in workforce and 20% annual revenue gains—VFP has achieved industry-leading safety metrics, including a current three-year DART average of 0.18 and over 570 consecutive days without a missed-time incident.

VFP’s approach is both strategic and people-centered. From a robust First Responder program with 65+ trained team members to accessible feedback channels like Safety Improvement Boxes and weekly Toolbox Talks, every employee has a role and a voice in the company’s safety culture. The company has also invested in physical upgrades like additional PPE vending machines, new Robo-Vent filtration systems, and advanced hearing and respiratory protection programs validated by expert testing.

What truly sets VFP apart is how it sustains and continuously improves its safety performance. Annual audits with Virginia OSHA, coupled with a pursuit of OSHA STAR Program status, demonstrate external accountability. Internally, safety recognition events, employee contests, and a visible commitment from leadership have built a culture of ownership—fitting for an employee-owned company.

Congratulations to VFP for setting a high bar in manufacturing safety, proving that a strong safety record and a thriving workplace can go hand-in-hand.

VFP is beyond overwhelmed to be recognized by SVAM and our peers in the fields of manufacturing, community service, and safety. We are striving to set the bar higher for ourselves in everything we do, and these distinctions help to validate these efforts. Reflecting on the recent awards dinner, we are very thankful and grateful. VFP plans to create opportunities that lead to success for our employees, the organization, and our community. – William Regert, EH&S Director, VFP, Inc.
